Client Overview
Steel Builders is a New South Wales–based steel fabrication and construction specialist delivering structural steel solutions for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects across Australia. The business supports a wide range of current and future project demands, requiring robust manufacturing capability, efficient workflow, and consistently high-quality surface finishing.
As production requirements increased, Steel Builders identified the need for a purpose-built, large-format spray booth solution that could support higher throughput while maintaining finish quality and operational flexibility.
Project Partner
The installation was delivered by R&I Zambesi, working in collaboration with the Z-Air engineering team to design, construct, and commission a high-capacity finishing solution tailored to the client’s operational needs.
The Challenge
Steel Builders required a spray booth system that could:
- Accommodate large structural steel components
- Support simultaneous or segmented workflows
- Maintain consistent coating quality across varying job sizes
- Be delivered and operational within a tight project timeline
- Be supported locally with responsive technical expertise
Minimising downtime was critical, with the facility needing to transition quickly into active production.
The Solution
The Z-Air team delivered a large Z-Air Spray Booth system measuring approximately 23 metres in length. The installation includes a central separation curtain, allowing the booth to be configured flexibly for both large-scale components and smaller batch work.
This booth allows Steel Builders to optimise workflow efficiency—running multiple job types within the same controlled environment without compromising finish quality or process control.
Key features of the installation include:
- Extended-length booth (approx. 23m) for large structural assemblies
- Internal separation curtain for flexible zoning
- High-efficiency airflow design for consistent coating results
- Scalable configuration for future production growth
- Local installation and commissioning support for rapid handover
The project team worked extended hours throughout the installation phase to ensure timely delivery and alignment with production requirements.
The Outcome
The spray booth was successfully completed and handed over ahead of operational requirements, allowing Steel Builders to begin painting activities immediately.
The new system provides:
- Increased production capacity
- Greater operational flexibility across job sizes
- Improved consistency in coating quality
- Reduced workflow bottlenecks
- A scalable finishing solution aligned with future growth
This installation demonstrates a strong collaboration between Steel Builders and the Z-Air team, delivering a high-performance finishing environment tailored to demanding industrial requirements.
